Lahore Grammar School – abbreviated as LGS – is a wide spread network of schools, providing quality education to both boys and girls. LGS has its branches in many cities of Pakistan such as Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan and Islamabad, but primarily this group of institutions is based in the city of Lahore. LGS is a prestigious name when talk of the top ranked, quality schools of Lahore.

Today’s spotlight is LGS Johar Town, Lahore.

Structural Picture:

LGS is a centralised school system, having its branches in DHA, Lahore Cantt, Gulberg, Johar Town, Model Town and few other areas of Lahore. There are separate campuses for pre schools, junior and senior girls, junior and senior boys. Curriculum, examination pattern, fee structure and other facilities offered are therefore standardised throughout. LGS has wisely maintained its quality of education in all of its branches. However, the Johar Town campuses are lately constructed. These campuses are purpose built and huge in size. This is what makes LGS Johar Town a little special than others.

LGS provides preschool education, primary education, secondary education and preparation for international General Certificate of Education(GCE). Some branches also provide preparation for local Secondary School Certificate (SSC). However, LGS Johar Town is not one of them. The session therefore starts in September, ending up in June.

LGS is completely a private fee paying, English medium school system.

Curriculum Choices:  

LGS follows British curriculum from reception till A Levels.The curriculum is designed to culminate in GCE O Level and GCE AS/A Level qualifications from British examination boards of University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) of Cambridge Assessment (UCLES) and Edexcel of Pearson PLC.

To meet these qualification requirements, the syllabus suggested is that of Oxford publishers, Pakistan along with some reference material provided in the printed form by the school management. The curriculum is set and is implemented with a consistency throughout!

Examination Pattern:

Term based examination pattern is followed. One academic year comprises of three terms.

Fee Structure:

LGS is one of the expensive school systems of Lahore.

The fee structure of LGS includes,

Admission Fee – 25000 PKR

Security money – 18000 PKR

Registeration – 3000 PKR

Monthly tution fee – (12000 to 15000) PKR according to the class.

LGS accepts the fee deposition on quarterly basis,i.e for three months.

Admission Formalities:

LGS has strict admission formalities regarding age group. If you are interested in admissions, you’ll have to consult the school management or visit their official website to know if your child fits their age requirement or not.  Moreover, a written test and interview is also taken at the time of admissions.

Student Life:

LGS has developed a student oriented environment, providing its students complete liberty to express themselves. In this connection, A student government system operates at sections of O-Level and A-Level. It is termed the Student Council and it has on average 20-30 members from Grade 13 (for A-Level Student Council).

Its primary functions are to collaborate with the administration to bring various opportunities for students, organize activities/events and as well as develop the school magazine. The Student Council is separate for each batch and the members are selected on a certain criteria. Some posts like that of the Head Students and sometimes House Captains are selected on a nomination and voting system. The members are also required to participate in the formal ceremony of Oath Taking.

This system of student government is also found in other UK schools of Lahore like AC, ICAS, RA, SICAS, SISA and senior branches of LACAS.

Co Curricular Activities:

The Grammar School’s co-curricular activities are widely popular among the youth of Lahore. They range from educational events to completely enjoyment programmes.

General Review:

LGS Johar Town’s strength area is the facilities made available because of the huge and purpose built campuses. Moreover, The acedamic history of LGS is very attractive and worth mentioning. When talk of the top ranked schools of Lahore, LGS’ name can’t be over looked. It is one of the best schools of Lahore, where the faculty is competent, environment is student friendly, curriculum and its implementation is set and the school system has a developed examination programme. Anyone searching for well reputed institutes in Lahore can consider LGS without much hesitation. The quality of education as well as behavioural development is maintained and standarised in all the branches, and thus in the Johar Town campuses as well.

The LGS school system is however quite expensive and not pocket friendly at all!!! LGS is a commercialised school system where you have to pay outrageous for the quality you receive in return! It is a good option for whom money isn’t an issue. But for the mediocre, LGS despite all the privileges, is not a considerable option.

A few parents when talking to Bachpan Ke Din, got their views about LGS recorded as follows.

” My son is in the second grade, and I find it really difficult to cope with the heavy load of home works. Teachers even assign untouched syllabus topics as home work which is not good. I believe that home work should only be for reinforcement. Instead of parents, its actually the teachers who reinforce and we the parents have to introduce the new concepts. I wish the management considers this complaint of mine”

” I am very happy the way my child is treated and taken care of in the LGS Johar Town pre school. Though expensive the school is very good”

They stress upon spoken English a lot, and I like this about LGS. After all we pay for the English medium school and it’s our right to receive a complete English medium of instruction in return.”

“ I don’t like the favouritism LGS’s teachers show towards some students. My child deserved to be a class representative but he was pushed back just because his friend was the teacher’s favourite. It’s not good for the student’s confidence.”

Its very natural to have such minor complaints when you are associated with any of the school systems. These problems are just minor problems and not issues. These can be solved easily with just a little negotiation with the management. All you need to do is to find a congenial way out and go hand in hand with the school system you are associated with as parents or customers so that your child gets benefited to the utmost.
